Volunteer Opportunities

Join Underdog’s Team of Volunteers

Our volunteers play an essential role in helping us give more animals a second chance. There are a variety of ways for volunteers to get involved with Underdog, from weekly opportunities to helping with annual events.

Explore our current volunteer positions below, and if you’re ready to make a difference, please complete our Volunteer Application. We couldn’t do this life-saving work without you.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Tabling at Pints for Pups - Volunteers will help set up our information table, answer visitor’s questions about Underdog, and sell Underdog swag from our merchandise shop.

  • Cat Care at PetSmart Madison East - Volunteers can sign up to provide care during various shifts at the store. Responsibilities include scooping litter boxes, feeding, and socializing our adoptable cats.

  • Street Dog Coalition - Our monthly Street Dog Coalition event provides free vet care to those who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. We are looking for veterinarians, vet techs and vet assistants to provide veterinary care at these events, as well as any volunteers willing to learn and assist with paperwork, reception, and distributing donated supplies to attendees with pets in need of vet care.

  • Event & Pet Photography - We love having photographers to capture fresh, quality photos of our adoptable pets for our website, as well as take photos at events to use for social media and marketing purposes.

  • Wags & Whiskers - We need help at our annual spring event to make the evening run smoothly. From helping with our silent auction to greeting guests with adoptable pets, we need all hands on deck.

  • Pride for Pups - This fun annual fundraiser takes place in June each year, and we need help at our welcome table, with our silent auction, and selling items throughout the evening.

  • UW-Madison Concessions - These are some of our best fundraisers of the year! Volunteers sling sodas, hot dogs, and nachos, and a percentage of sales plus tips goes back to help our animals.

  • Transport Support - We often need help at our weekend transports to help clean up the transport vehicles before sending them back to southern shelter partners. These transports are how many of our animals arrive at Underdog, traveling north to begin their journey in foster homes and ultimately become adoptable.

a second chance. Apply today!
